BlackEveryday Joins ACLU, Farrakhan:Nobody Cares


Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan is in Grand Rapids this morning to show his support for Benton Harbor minister Edward Pinkney, who was sent to prison for warning that a judge could be tortured by God. Pinkney's appeal is being heard in Grand Rapids today at the state Court of Appeals. Pinkney's lawyers say his free-speech rights were trampled in Berrien County. He is being supported by the American Civil Liberties Union.
In 2007, Pinkney was convicted of paying people to vote in a Benton Harbor election. Months later, he wrote an article in a Chicago newspaper saying the judge could be punished by God with curses, fever and extreme burning unless he changed his ways. Last summer, another Berrien County judge sent Pinkney to prison for three to 10 years, saying the threat violated the minister's probation.
